A Week Off

May 30, 2018

For a freelance musician, taking time off is a very difficult thing to do. We don’t get sick pay or holiday pay. We simply have to make sure we can afford it before we do it. You are reading this mid way through a week off for me. Back in April I was feeling very overwhelmed with work. It was the Easter holidays and I had gig after gig after gig and I was also very tired. So I decided to use the next half term break to give myself a week off.

I’m not doing anything lavish, mainly because I can’t afford to, but also because I am really happy to be spending the time at home. I am keeping myself busy with friends coming over, painting furniture, seeing my family, sorting out our little garden and doing some exercise every single day. But the other wonderful thing about having this time off, is practicing the harp when and if I feel like it.

That’s what I love about having time off at home, being able to do whatever, whenever I like. Painting our furniture is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, but when you only get one day off a week, it isn’t a top priority. The other great thing about having a week off, is when it’s a few days in and you start having mid afternoon naps. I LOVE napping.

Don’t get me wrong, I get stuff done. I take my dresses to the dry cleaners, catch up on my accounts, give the flat a really good clean. All the boring stuff has to get done, but there’s no rush.

Today I viewed a harp that I will most likely buying. I am SO excited. It’s a Pilgrim Clarsach and I have wanted one for years. I finally get to buy my own! As soon as I buy it I will definitely be sharing photo’s of it in a future blog.

It really is now half way through my week off, so I’m going to finish here. I’ve done everything I said I was going to do, chores and all, and I’ve still got all of this time left. The harp has not been neglected, the house is (mostly) clean, and I’ve managed two naps so far!

I’ll be back next week with a more harp related post, but for now this is me and what I enjoy doing when I’m not playing my harp.

Thanks for reading and see you next time!
